Since some substitute teachers are also interested in becoming an Ed Tech (Educational Technician), here’s a little general information.
Interestingly, the Maine DOE (Department of Education) does very little regulation of Substitute Teachers beyond the background check. LD 609 also requires all school employees including substitutes to complete Suicide Awareness and Prevention training within six months of hire.
Educational Technicians are regulated. There are three levels and the requirements vary by level. The answers to most general questions regarding becoming at ed tech can be found on this page of the Maine DOE website.
Bear in mind that with all employees, individual districts may have additional requirements. Therefore, if you are intending to apply to a specific district, you should contact the superintendent’s office of that district.
